New data format 2cbh

Fritz19 provides you with the 2CBH format introduced with ChessBase 17 in addition to the familiar CBH and PGN file formats.

This new data format is supported without restrictions and you can access your databases created with CB17 with this program version without conversion.

What advantages does the new 2CBH format offer the user?

For example, there are no longer any limits for player names, tournament names etc.

The "2CBH" format requires significantly fewer files and uses modern caching methods of the operating system. Furthermore, it no longer requires search accelerators, the updating of which repeatedly caused comprehension and performance problems.

2CBH is conceptually simpler and therefore more robust. Many functions such as copying therefore run twice as fast as in the old CBH format. The new format requires slightly more space on the disk, which is relatively unimportant with today's disk sizes.

Example

With the new format comes new functionality. Another thing is the determination of the beauty of games. The beauty value is written into the game data in the new format, there was no space in the old format. You can generate the beauty values with ChessBase 17. If a database is classified with it, this classification is displayed in the game list.

Many of the new functions introduced with CB 17 are only possible with the new 2CBH format. We are aware that the introduction of a new data format is always viewed with mixed feelings by many users. This program version is completely downward compatible and you can continue to use all previously supported data formats such as CBF, CBH, PGN, etc. for the purpose of transfer, data backup, etc.

Converting older file formats to the new 2CBH format

Create a new database in 2CBH format. Select the games in the game list of the database to be converted, copy them to the Windows clipboard and switch to the newly created 2cbh database. Import the games from the Windows clipboard with CTRL-V, the conversion is carried out automatically during the copying process.

Conversion from 2CBH to older file formats

In principle, conversion to older file formats works in exactly the same way as described above. Create a new database in the old CBH/PGN-etc format, copy the lots from the old database to the clipboard. Now open the target database and start the import with CTRL-V. The conversion is carried out automatically during the copying process.
