This program reads and writes all ChessBase file formats, including the old CBF/CBH format, the normal multimedia 2CBH format, the ChessBase archive format CBV, the international PGN format, and EPD positions (these can only be imported into a database). When you copy games from one format to another they are automatically converted.

Different formats

The program uses the openings book tree format CTG, but it can import old books in the FBK format.

PGN is an internationally accepted text format which can be read and edited with a simple ASCII editor. On the Internet you will find many games in PGN format. Even if these files contain a lot of additional text – tournament reports, tables, general messages – they can still be accessed directly, without any prior conversion. Just make sure the file has the ending “PGN”. The program will ignore all the text in between the games.

Note:You can convert games from one format to the other by copying them into a database with the required format.

With this new program version, we have developed a newly designed database format which, in addition to easier handling, also offers some brand new innovative functions.

The new 2CBH format requires significantly fewer individual files, which means that the program can execute function requests much more quickly and easily.

Example

This is clearly evident in elementary database functions such as searching for duplicates, conversions to other formats, etc.
