Style Report
The program offers you an essential feature for optimal preparation against future opponents. In addition to the frequently used dossier function, there is now an innovative style analysis as a complementary feature. This analysis evaluates existing games in the database to thoroughly examine the playing style of potential opponents, providing valuable insights into their strengths and weaknesses. This is especially important if you have not encountered the player in personal matches.
Does the opponent prefer an aggressive play style, regardless of risks, possibly showing weaknesses in defense or positional play?
Or do they favor a more peaceful approach, aiming for exchanges and steering towards calm endgames or quick draws?
The style analysis can answer these questions based on existing games. It provides detailed insights into your opponent's preferences and opening repertoire, revealing typical configurations that often appear in their games. The style report function addresses these and other questions, enabling you to prepare strategically and thoughtfully for your upcoming game.
Procedure for Conducting the Style Analysis
1. First, open the game list.
2. In the player index, select the desired player by clicking on the respective entry.
3. In the displayed list, mark the name of the player for whom you want to create the style analysis.
4. Click on Style Report in the menu bar to start the function.
5. In the next step, you can specify which game data should be used as the basis for the analysis.
In practice, these will usually be tournament games (long games), but when participating in blitz tournaments, it can also be very useful to conduct a style analysis of potential opponents in this particular format.
After these preparatory steps, the style analysis will be conducted automatically, providing you with detailed information about the selected player's playing style.
Note: The style report also works with a selection of games in any game list -> right-click -> Style Report.
Tip: A style report can be run on any set of games, even on all games in an opening variation, which can then be characterized accordingly. The program will recognize if a single player has participated in all games and will adjust to analyze this player specifically.
In the Player Encyclopedia, select the Dossier -> Style Report button. Alternatively, and more quickly, access works if you start the player index of the database.
The results of the style analysis are presented in a detailed, well-organized database text.
The graphic immediately shows that the player Fischer is characterized by a strong fighting spirit, high risk-taking, and a correspondingly high success rate.
Within the database text, you will find links to particularly typical motifs in the games of the selected player. The overview is organized thematically and includes categories such as opposite-side castling, center play, gambits, and other relevant focal points.
For each theme, there is an indication of how frequently it appears in the player’s games compared to a collection of "average" grandmaster games. This profile forms the basis for insights into the player’s style.
Deviations from the reference games are shown in percentages and symbols. The highest possible positive deviation (feature highly pronounced) is represented as "+++".
With a simple click on the inserted link or desired game, you can load it directly into the board window for replay or analysis.
In summary, the style report considers the following aspects:
• Graphical assessment of the player across various categories.
• Descriptive observations based on statistical analysis of individual strategic features.
• Frequency of games with varying degrees of sharpness.
• Overview of opening variations, including performance ratings and deviations from the average performance across all games.
• Example games that illustrate specific strategic characteristics.
